idk, is it possible? I'm doing a project for extra credit...Once you get a viral disease and recover from it, you might get it again. Is this true or false? need help!!!?
It's kind of complex as far as I know. Some viral diseases (like the common cold) you can be completely immune against, but since the common cold virus mutates really fast, a new strain could infect you--technically, it isn't the same virus, so you're experiencing a different viral disease with the exact same symptoms.
Stuff like the mumps, as far as I know, are a one-shot deal--once you get it, you're not likely to ever have it again.
Chicken pox is another complex one... since it belongs to the herpesvirus family, it infects you, but instead of your body clearing it, it ';hides'; in your spinal cord. Most people never have any other problems with it, but if it reactivates, you get shingles (or ';zoster';). The same is true of HSV I, the cold sore virus.
So, the answer here would depend on the definition of ';viral disease';... if the definition is the illness (including signs and symptoms), then it's true. If the definition is actual re-infection with the virus, then the answer is false.
If I had to pick one, I'd pick false, since that's more accurate in my field of knowledge.
Hopefully this helped!
