If Religion is false then why as humans do we feel the need to follow an omnipitant being?

Because the harsh reality is...

We're all doomed to push up daisies in just a few short decades...and a lot of people need some ';mental shield'; against that very brutally terrifying realization...I mean...that means that after you're dead, you won't ever even know that you were ever alive, and that means that life is pretty meaningless and pointless from an individual's ';knowledge of certain death'; perspective, so...

We create art and myths and spin tall tales that we come to believe are true after many tellings, and we invented many Gods, and then just pare it down to ';one'; God (which I suppose is better than nothing in more ways than one, 1400 down, just one to go...hee hee) and we pretend that God loves us so much, He won't let our personalities die...He will guide our ectoplasmic personality essence that emerges magically and indetectably invisible from our bodies at the time of death, thus ';saving us'; from that ';harsh reality of non-existence, so the story goes, and many people actually don't mind believing in something quite absurd and implausible rather than continually throw themselves into fits of depression from their inability to control their thinking about their certain doom...

That's why...

';Gong!';If Religion is false then why as humans do we feel the need to follow an omnipitant being?
Careful with your wording here, April. Most religions do not assume an Omnipotent Being. It's only Jews, Christians and Muslims who do that. To my mind such a notion is inapplicable. For instance, not even the Sun has enough power to make a turtle do algebra. In this case it's not a matter of power, it's a matter of intelligence.

Religion gives people more than a doctrine or dogma to follow. The Latin root of religion is religere, which is supposed to mean 'binding together'; - scholars argue over whether that is the true meaning or not. Nevertheless, it has become a real one. Even though I'm a pagan and worship Shiva, Aphrodite and the Sun, I go to Unitarian Universalist services on Sunday just to be with the literate, scientific and warm people there. If Religion is false then why as humans do we feel the need to follow an omnipitant being?
Rejection or limitation of omnipotence

Some monotheists reject the view that God is or could be omnipotent, or take the view that, by choosing to create creatures with freewill, God has chosen to limit divine omnipotence. In Conservative and Reform Judaism, and some movements within Protestant Christianity, including process theology and open theism, God is said to act in the world through persuasion, and not by coercion (for open theism, this is a matter of choice--God could act miraculously, and perhaps on occasion does so--while for process theism it is a matter of necessity--creatures have inherent powers that God cannot, even in principle, override). God is manifest in the world through inspiration and the creation of possibility, not necessarily by miracles or violations of the laws of nature.

The rejection of omnipotence often follows from either philosophical or scriptural considerations.

Philosophical grounds

Process theology rejects unlimited omnipotence on a philosophical basis, arguing that omnipotence as classically understood would be less than perfect, and is therefore incompatible with the idea of a perfect God.

The idea is grounded in Plato's oft-overlooked statement that ';Being is power.';

Scriptural grounds

In the Authorized King James Version of the Bible, as well as several other versions, in Revelation 19:6 it is stated ';...the Lord God omnipotent reigneth'; (the original Greek word is παντοκράτωρ, ';all-mighty'; ).

Many other verses in the Bible do assert God's omnipotence without actually using the word itself. There are several times in the Bible when God is called simply ';Almighty';, showing that the Bible supports the belief in an omnipotent God.

I don't believe that religion is false, and I am glad to have a Heavenly Father who is omnipitant. As a human who has very limited power aside from Christ, I feel the need to follow an omnipant being to fill in for my lack thereof.
religion isnt false, silly rabbit,

false doctrine and false teacher and false prophets and traditions exist. Faith is true.

as for following God, i think most people follow charismatic people, some of which get it, and some of which dont. some are cheats and swindlers at the beginning

but religion was ordained by a REAL and LIVING God. in the beginning, there was a war in heaven and that war does everything it can to deceive people. EVEN create false religions.
Christianity is only false to those whose minds are blinded by the powers of darkness and satan only blinds their minds to the TRUTH, because he is afraid of what will happen to any individual when the light of the glorious gospel of Christ will shine into their dark and sinful souls.

2 Corinthians 4:4

In whom the god of this world (satan) hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.
Religion is, in my opinion, the first step toward understanding. It's the first thing a society concludes when it starts to ask the question ';Why?'; The problem occurs not so much in the existence of religion, as in the resistance of those who are highly religious to going beyond supernatural explanations for various phenomenon. Most people are quite comfortable with ';things as they are;'; that's human nature. Such people are in the majority, and are therefore powerful. When others try to go past the point of accepting a deity as the reason for otherwise-unexplained phenomenon, they will inevitably meet resistence from those who are fearful of the unknown.
Fear. People find the notion of having a soul or spirit attractive

because they cannot conceive of their lives ending. Having that

notion, people who believe that they have a spirit

nature also find the notion of god attractive to protect the spirit.

From a cultural notion, people want to have a strong leader or

strong protector. They imagine an ';omnipotent being';, but they

have to deal with the fact that god doesn't seem to show up on

call and often seems to let terrible things happen, so they have

to invent explanations for this. God, apparently isn't really omnipotent,

after all.
I personally don't feel that need. But it is true that many do. Then how to explain such behavior? It may be that supernatural explanations may motivate human social cooperation more than reliance on factual explanations. If such is true then evolution would have favored this for its survival fitness.
Humans feel a need to follow a God?

Alright - which one of you SOBs ripped me off and stole my NEEDS?!?!?! Cuz I sure dont have this need you speak of...

Humans have a need for ANSWERS. And, when we cannot find them, we invent them - as a God. This is why so many people believe - fear of the unknown and desire to know.
Certain religious people and religious historians from the beginning of time have made us feel that we are incomplete beings unless we acknowledge a supreme being. I'm not a christian, but somewhere in John's gospel there is a line where Jesus says we will do the things he did and GREATER. That about says it all, right? I don't care one way or the other about an omnipotent being. There is no proof of a god, not is there not proof, but I have other things to think about.
Because many humans are designed to be sheep. An evolutionary trait that makes it easier for the leaders (rare ones), to keep things in control.

Also, because it is highly comforting. Who wouldn't want an omnipotent father-figure watching over them?
Humans are imperfect, and the more ignorant ones project their inner desire to be perfect and omnipotent (note correct spelling) onto one or more deities.
the false premise is that we have to FOLLOW, when all the time it's we who should be doing the LEADING. the only thing i need to follow is my heart, because it's where god's guidance comes to me.
People can be over whelmed, not know how to cope with life, afraid of dying, needing guidance,or just plain believe.problem is,they think their way is best and so annoy every one else which is counter productive.
omnipotence is a paradox. there is no such thing, and i for one feel no such need.

you cant be omnipotent, there are just too many problems presented.

can god make a stone so large that he can not lift it? this is just one of the millions of paradoxes presented by omnipotence.

if you can create anything, when do you become satisfied with what you have done, you could always do infinitely better. (no matter how many times you improve your creation by infinity)
Upbringing also develop the feelings of need.
Only some do. Enlightened ones don't.
It is easier to think that a god created everything than the complicated plan of the world science gives us.
Some people do, because they have existential concerns, particularly issues of life and death
Herd mentality.
we need: to find the true and unbroken soul within us, within this moment, and love it all the time.
Ignorance and fear.
I don't.
Any ';Unknown'; force is a Positive source of POWER..

But thats all the MINDS doing!..

We feel too alone!! i guess.
I don't THINK about it, I just Feel it....!!
