If Religion is false then why as humans do we feel the need to follow an omnipotent being?

Religion isn't false. The ideas held by some religious people may be false, as may the ideas held by atheists , agnostics and wiccans. We feel the need to worship something God-like because we do not understand our own biology and psychology sufficiently to allow us to be secure without the presence of a ';Father'; figure. Education will eventually reduce this need.If Religion is false then why as humans do we feel the need to follow an omnipotent being?
For some, it's actually genetic. Think about it. People with religion tend to heal faster, and fight harder (when that was appropriate) therefore they live longer and can spread there genes. Or, it's psychological. People can't find a way to explain everything anyway else, so we say that something beyond us did it/is doing it. And again, its traditional. While this doesn't explain the origin of religion, it explains a good many people believe it. It was taught by there parents by their parents by their parents by their parents and so on and so forth.

Also, not all gods are omnipotent. Just an FYI.If Religion is false then why as humans do we feel the need to follow an omnipotent being?
Jam 1:27 Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, [and] to keep himself unspotted from the world.

Religion is not false per say.

WE need to follow an omnipotent being because God the Blessed Trinity made us in order to enjoy Him forever.

DFF
Many religions don't always have correct doctrines but as you say there is a need that people have for God. I think it could possibly increase when a person becomes a believer because they receive a new nature from God (upon believing in Christ)and the new nature is the part that communes with God. The old nature is the sin nature which everyone possess.

Your statement seems logical to me. If there were no God then why are there so many religions all around the world.
Way back in time, when man was first starting out, there were a lot of things in this little world he didn't understand. It was beyond his TECHNOLOGY and comprehension, but still, he had the desire to know. So, he developed this story about an all-powerful being that ran everything. And it satisfied the need. That has just been passed down for generations, and just has failed to go away, even though it is no longer needed, or generally wanted.
It depends on which religion! I don't feel the need to follow an omnipotent being, but those who do, don't feel their religion is false. If the did they would be contradicting themselves.
religion is not wrong. your lifestyles and ideas are wrong.who will decide who is wrong who is right?do you have an omnipotent being ?if so bring it .we are waiting
I wasn't aware that I had the need to follow an omnipotent being... good thing you told me!

Seriously though... when you're indoctrinated from birth it's hard to grow up and accept reality (which is much more harsh).
Because we, as animals, are driven by baser motivations, mainly fear and avoidance of pain. Gods help us cope with and rationalize the things that scare us and cause us pain.
Voltaire said, ';If there was no God, man would have certainly invented one.'; Human being are made (design) to worship. If not God, something else.
People who says religion is false are just not ready to admit that there's a superior being to human. just egoistic ppl.
Fear and indoctrination.

But, personally, I don't.
Humans don't innately feel the need to follow an omnipotent being. We are taught to.
stupidity
Its the hole in our hearts that can only be filled with God.
i am human and I do not have the need to follow an omnipotent being
I don't.
we don't it's called brainwashing.
who is ';we?';
who is ';we?
