My science teacher wants us to find a false scientific claim of some sort and say why it's not correct. Any ideas? I need a 'false' science for homework to prove wrong. Any ideas?
Science teachers just love astrology, not!. I won't do your homework for you, but a few minutes on a search engine will give you all the scientific claims about astrology and a few minutes more and you'll get info on why astrology is false science.
Whether you believe it or not, it doesn't matter, your science teacher will love you for it. I need a 'false' science for homework to prove wrong. Any ideas?
google pseudoscience and a few should present themselves. The only thing that came to my mind was ';phrenology'; - a claim that you could somehow determine a person's personality and abilities by studying the shape of the skull (lumps and bumps, size, shape etc).
good luck!
Lamarckism! It was widely believed for a long time:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lamarckism
As a matter of fact, I think many people still erroneously believe this is how Evolution works. According to Lamarck, if YOU exercise a lot and develop a lot of big muscles then when you have children THEY will grow up to have big muscles too.
It's called Pseudoscience I believe.
Aliens exist. That's an example, though you can pretty much figure everything else out on your own.
prove a conjecture wrong?
cause then you could say
any sum of two numbers is larger then the larger number
false 5+ (-7)= -2 -2 is not larger then 5
Intelligent Design or Creationism!
To the person that said Evolution theory - you're nuts! The place is being overran by right wing evagelical christians!
Intelligent Design, homeopathy, astrology, chiropratic, telekinesis, etc, etc, etc...
Creationism, Astrology, Alchemy
Creationism
Astrology
Scientology
Global warming.
Claim the earth is flat, then prove it's not. See link for the history.
I would have to say 'Intelligent Design' but that's opening up a new can of worms...
Bees cant think
Evolution theory?
You can explain how non-experimented, non-repeatable, circumstantial facts, used strictly to infer (not deduce)... has been falsely utilized to assert ';objective truth'; and blindly deny theistic possibilities offhand.
Evolution theory, like most pseudo-sciences, are quite convincing but are otherwise unfounded and sit firmly on a house of cards. And when facts come along that refute the science, it is summarily disregarded for one rationale or another... just like biologists were three centuries ago when their science contradicted preexisting scientific beliefs or religions.
I bet your science teacher would love it if you could use science and logic to undermine his atheism. Any true unbiased empiricist would, anyway.

And as proof to the anti-theistic bigotry that exists in the so-called, self-labeled ';intelligent atheist';...
Note that Phoenix, below, mentioned ';intelligent design'; and thus far got three up thumbs. Whereas me, giving a fully intelligent argument, siting ';evolution theory'; and I get two down thumbs thus far
